I was born in Kansas City, Missouri. I grew up in Weston, Missouri, a small farming community, which had an impact on my artistic development with its open space and simple farm structures. I studied architecture at the University of Kansas and took various painting and drawing classes from the Fine Arts Department at the University of Kansas. I was awarded a scholarship to study at the University of Dortmund, School of Architecture, Dortmund, Germany in 1988-89 and in 1991 received a Bachelor of Architecture Degree from the University of Kansas, School of Architecture and Urban Design, Lawrence, Kansas.
After graduation, I lived in San Francisco and worked for an architect. I continued painting and drawing as a sideline to my architecture career. I moved to Little Rock, Arkansas in 1993, where I currently live and work as a principal at Herron Horton Architects, which was established in 2000.
